This work is dedicated to those unknown emigrants who do not appear here. Although our research has been painstaking, no matter how deep we looked, many remain nameless and will not appear in these pages due to the many transcription errors, because their names or places of origin were mangled by the boarding offices, or by functionaries who often held a grudge, perhaps because they were travelling clandestinely, deliberately avoiding registration procedures. These people will thus remain forever invisible to all, except for the faint recollections of distant descendants carrying their surnames.
